Wire packs often carry letters like FR, FRLS or HFFR. They describe how the insulation behaves if there is a fire.
FR – Flame Retardant
FR PVC insulation resists catching fire and slows the spread of flames along the wire. It is the standard choice for most homes, shops and offices.
FRLS – Flame Retardant Low Smoke
FRLS wires are flame retardant and also give off less smoke and fewer acid gases when they burn. Less smoke means people can see exits more easily, so FRLS is often chosen for crowded buildings.
HFFR / ZHFR – Halogen Free Flame Retardant
These wires use insulation without halogens, so they give off very little toxic and corrosive gas in a fire. They are used where safety of people and sensitive equipment is critical — for example hospitals, data centres, metros and airports.
Which one do you need?
- Homes, shops, offices: FR wire is the common choice.
- Malls, hotels, high-rise buildings: consider FRLS.
- Hospitals, data centres, transport: HFFR / ZHFR as specified by the project.
Kanak house wires use FR PVC insulation. For other types, contact us with your project requirement.
